From working on Cruise ships, to Hotels to many years of Site Selection, I bring my passion of the Hospitality Industry to every interaction I make in my work day. I am truly thankful for the partnerships and people I get to work with each and every day.
When I’m not reviewing contracts, floor plans and proposals, you’ll find me entertaining my two wonderful kids, trying to get them to still listen to me!
- How would you describe your work ethic in 3 words? Work Hard, Play Hard…okay this is four words but that also shows I like to go above and beyond!
- What is the best piece of professional advice you have ever received? I have two! One of my favourite quotes with advice as it relates to how I live and work is to Be yourself, everyone else is taken. The other is; Dream big. Start small. But most of all start.
- You’re leaving on a jetplane tomorrow, where are you going and who are you bringing with you? Covid has taught me that I don’t care whether we are catching up on rest poolside, splashing around on a beach or exploring a new city; I just want to be traveling and with the people I love most; my family, friends and colleagues!

My clients would describe me as a relentless negotiator, and say that I love finding the most perfect home for all meetings big and small. Hotel partners would say I am straightforward and fair. I am extremely thankful for all of the relationships I have built during my time at SSS.
I reflect on how thankful I am while sipping wine on the dock at the cottage!
- Are you more productive in the mornings, afternoons or evenings? Why? My kids were always early risers, so I learned to be an even earlier riser! I started waking up at 5 am so that I could have some time to myself before I had to put on “MOM hat”. It is a habit that stuck with me over the years. I get up early, and can get so much done by 9 am!
- What is your favourite item you’ve bought this year? Everyone who knows me knows I LOVE MY COSTCO SLIPPERS! Well, I got a new pair to replace my old ones and as much as the old ones were “familiar”, the new ones make me VERY HAPPY. Everyone needs a pair of these slippers in their life.

- What are you most passionate about professionally? I am passionate about building meaningful and lasting relationships not only with clients, but also suppliers and colleagues.
- Favorite Quote? You’re in competition with one person only, and that is the individual you know you can become.
- One word people use to describe you? Energetic.

With close to 30 years of experience in the industry I am not afraid to face the elephant in the eyes. My colleagues know me as the person with many questions. When I am not turning over every rock for answers I am trail walking or reading the paper over a hot cup of coffee.
- What is your number one tip for combating distractions when working from home? Ignore everything around you and just focus on the task in front of you. One minute at a time. Take all the drinks and snacks you’ll need for the day and keep them by your side just as you would if you were going to work. Also take a nice walk at lunch time to rejuvenate your mind and body so you don’t get cabin fever.
- You’re leaving tomorrow on a jet plane, where are you going and who are you bringing with you? I’m headed to Bora Bora with my soul sister. Guaranteed to laugh all day long with her by my side.

I joined the SSS family in 2017 after over 20 years working in the hospitality industries in both Europe and North America (started at aged 8, no big deal). Whilst I love checking contracts with a fine tooth comb (its all in the detail!), I was drawn to this career because of the people; the relationships and friendships I have made with clients and suppliers along the way.
In my spare time you can catch me playing slo-pitch softball, building forts & castles with my daughters, or rooting on my favourite sports teams, the Canucks, Broncos and Blue Jays. Sports talk always welcome, and highly encouraged with me!
- What is the one thing you would tell your past self pre-Covid? I would tell myself so many things… To soak it all in. Find pleasure in the simple things. Value every interaction. Slow down. Hug people more. And go stock up on loungewear because it will be the celebrated garment of choice for the next little while.
- Best professional advice you ever received? This isn’t advice I received personally, but Richard Branson’s mother had always told him to never look back in regret – move onto the next thing. Failures are inevitable, its what you do with it that matters. This stuck with me!
- You have to sign Karoake, what song do you pick? Hold On, Wilson Phillips

Jay joins the SSS team with over eight years experience in event planning, sales, destination marketing, and event audio-visual sales.
As graduate from Bishop’s University with a BBA in Entrepreneurship and Economics, Jay is currently serving as Vice-President Communications on the MPI Ottawa Board of Directors. He speaks and writes English and French.
Jay prides himself on his dedication to client satisfaction, his varied background, and his ability to foster meaningful business relationships with both suppliers and clients. He is especially passionate about giving back within the industry and helping new, as well as established planners, navigate the intricacies of meetings and events.
Jay and his wife love to travel and get lost in foreign places, and are parents to two kids under 3, plus a dog.
- What are you most passionate about professionally? I want my clients to feel like I’m part of their team. My most meaningful professional relationships are ones that are built on honesty, trust, and my ability to bring tangible value-adds to areas that would otherwise be stressors.
- Where is your favourite place you have travelled and why? The list is long so I’m going to go with the places not yet travelled. There’s nothing quite like the planning process of travel. You can sometimes get more out of researching where you want to go, and consequently not go, and what you want to do when you get there, than the time-limited travel itself. If I had to choose a place and answer the question? Northern Spain for the simple yet delectable food.
- What are three travel essentials you never forget to pack? Headphones, Travel Size Lint Roller, and Spearmint Gum.

- What do your ideal clients say about you? I am devoted, creative and very professional. My goal is to find the best way to help my clients by understanding exactly what they need and what is important for them. I am not afraid to ask questions or challenge the ideas in place. Their satisfaction is what matters the most to me.
- Where is your favourite place you have travelled and why? Australia is on the top of my list but it’s a difficult question to answer as so many places are lovely in their own manner. I spent a year in Australia on a Working Holiday visa and felt in love with this beautiful and wild country. What’s not to like about a place where most large cities have beaches and surfing is a common way of working out!
- One word people use to describe you? Passionate

As a highly motivated professional with extensive experience in Hospitality Sales and Events, Joyce brings to Strategic Site Selection her growing expertise in sales & marketing, event management, creative strategy, and elite client relations. Being extremely driven to excel by nature, Joyce has had the privilege to engage and offer her professional contributions at elite corporate organizations, national associations, and international corporate and social events. Her focus is to continue to nourish and add value to her clients and be a permanent partner in the success of their meetings and events.
After living in downtown Toronto for over 10 years, Joyce is now back in her hometown of Vaughan near almost all her family and friends. Being a foodie it was important to her also to be near great restaurants and cafes where she can enjoy a great meal and a good latte…a couple of her favourite things. Another item to add to this list is her beautiful cocker spaniel puppy of 10 months, Bella.
Joyce loves to travel (mostly to try the different cuisines the world has to offer), and enjoying the company of family and friends. She enjoys cooking but baking allows her to use more of her creative side. Giving back is important to her and spends time donating to food banks and shelters whenever she can. With a busy life, she makes sure to make time for yoga, meditation and healthy habits that will help her with both her personal and professional growth. After a long day, nothing is more relaxing for her than putting on a jazz record and curling up on the sofa with a glass of wine and her sidekick, Bella.
- What Does Your Typical WFH uniform look like? There is nothing like being extremely comfortable when working. So if I have no video calls or virtual meetings, I’m in my comfy yoga pants and sweatshirt. A t-shirt if it’s the summer!

One of my colleagues told me recently about my calm disposition is like no one that she has ever worked with before and I think that really sums me up to a “T”! I think this comes from my number of years experience in the hospitality industry especially working in the front office department you must always remain calm cool and collective – even under a crisis! I also care deeply for all my clients, partners and teammates and I will work my hardest to give them my all and make sure everyone is happy!
Also, I am a true coffee fanatic, I love a good cup of coffee so you will see me throughout the day constantly drinking coffee but also sipping on water – BALANCE!
- What is your number one tip for combating distractions when working from home? I have setup my office space in a separate room away from as much distractions as possible. When I do work in my kitchen I find myself constantly wanting to snack so having my office upstairs the kitchen seems to far away.
- What is your favourite item you’ve bought this year? My Dyson vacuum – its AMAZING. I moved recently so my last house had central vacuum which I once thought was greatness thing but now switching to cordless vacuum it really surprises me how much my vacuum collects.
- What does your typical WFH uniform look like? Most days I really try to “dress up” so I put on jeans and “dressy shirt”. However, there are days that I do wear leggings and sweatshirt. Really depends on the day.

As a passionate member of the hospitality industry for the past 5 years, my number one goal is total satisfaction. I am always striving to make sure that any clients I work with are happy and that we meet their goals together. I am big on relationship building and believe that is the key in this industry. Making someone feel truly at home and in good hands is something that comes naturally to me. I’m a passionate team player who wants to see everyone win! Bringing my hotel sales background to SSS offers valuable insight from the other side, allowing me to help our clients secure the best match for their needs. When I am not working, I am teaching the next group of hospitality professionals, binge watching Netflix (because is there any other way to watch tv now??), cooking and baking or spending time with my 3 amazing kids and hubby.
- How would you describe your work ethic in 3 words? Trustworthy, Loyal, and Positive.
- You must sing karaoke, what song do you pick? Single Ladies. Does it matter that I’m not single? It’s still Single Ladies.
- Are you more productive in the mornings, afternoons or evenings? Why? Is “anytime I’m alone” a time of day? But seriously with a busy household of 3 kids and a husband with varying levels of needs, if the house is empty you can expect me to be productive morning, noon and night!

I started at SSS just days after the 10th anniversary festivities in the newly created role of Accounts Receivable/Office Administrator. I was able to learn all aspects of the “SSS way” from my uniquely positioned role, and as the company grew swiftly, so did my role! I am now the AR/HR Manager and continue to help wherever I can “behind the scenes” while trying not to put too much of a damper on the fun (aka pulling a Toby Flenderson!).
When I’m not working away you can find me tackling some fun art projects, learning new tunes on the piano and hanging with my adorable bernedoodle Murphy!
- What is one thing you would tell your past self pre-COVID19? Don’t take things for granted! Family, friends, nights out, travelling – appreciate every moment!
- If you could learn one new professional skill, what would it be? Public speaking! I tend to be a fainter in these situations.
- You’re leaving tomorrow on a jet plane, where are you going and who are you bringing with you? I would be flying off to my Iceland wedding that COVID postponed. Followed by a dream honeymoon. I’d bring my fiancé of course!
